Casing Tong Positioning Arm

A customer in Brazil required a system to maneuver heavy (6,000kg) casing tongs on the drillfloor of their drillships. Hampco offered a concept of hydraulic custom push-pull and slew arms whereby the vertical load was supported by adjustable hangoff wires mounted under the derrick crown blocks. Time was very limited and we had to design, manufacture and install 4 units in a maximum of 12 weeks including the drillfloor foundations with ABS approval. Owing to the deadline, all hardware was sourced and manufacturing carried out in Brazil. This required an intense level of cooperation between Hampco's project team and all suppliers but the project was successfully completed several days ahead of schedule.
